The Utopians 03:21
A perfect day The utopians have been this way The sway down of a bass drum And I’m coming to your heart thrum All the lights fade as the bets are placed I bet we’re turning back to my place All the life made in an old street haze We breathe now in perfect ways Cause I don’t think I’m ever going home Kiss goodbye to everyone I’ve ever known So mad, but it happened like that It could happen like that Cause I don’t think I’m ever going home Kiss goodbye to everyone I’ve ever known So mad, but it happened like that It could happen like that A perfect place The utopians have got their way We go down and we get up We love blind and we use up luck All the light fades as the bets are placed I bet we’re putting on a brave face All the life made in a compulsive haze We breathe deep cause we get drained Cause I don’t think I’m ever going home Kiss goodbye to everyone I’ve ever known So mad, but it happened like that It could happen like that Cause I don’t think I’m ever going home Kiss goodbye to everyone I’ve ever known So mad, but it happened like that It could happen like that Make a place that can’t be found Made forever still in amber Make new again The tired eyes of everything Trip through the golden halls of us Echo the aching of our lungs Is this enough? The final beat of every love Cause I don’t think I’m ever going home Kiss goodbye to everyone I’ve ever known So mad, but it happened like that It could happen like that Cause I don’t think I’m ever going home Kiss goodbye to everyone I’ve ever known So mad, but it happened like that It could happen like that

The Beach 02:35
Walking in sound at the Walking in sound at the Walking in sound at the Walking in sound at the Walking in sound at the Walking in sound at the Walking in sound at the Walking in sound at the Walking in sound at the internet beach Waves and loops where your brain doesn’t reach We go circles in the wind and rain Then it’s sunny and there is no pain Nice warm swimming in the endless sea I go looking and you’ve lost me Need reinvention and I need more fun I need worlds where the jokes are dumb Sticky sand weighing down my feet Thoughts are messy but the days are neat Tell me when did I get so slow Fingers move like a clock tick go Habits creep to the edge of the shore We go splashing and we all want more Losing vision of a sunset ache A perfect song that I cannot make Don’t let me lose Don’t let me lose myself Don’t let me lose Don’t let me lose myself Don’t let me lose Don’t let me lose myself Don’t let me lose Don’t let me lose myself Walking in sound at the internet beach Waves and loops where your brain doesn’t reach We go circles in the wind and rain Then it’s sunny and there is no pain Nice warm swimming in the endless sea I go looking and you’ve lost me Need reinvention and I need more fun I need worlds where the jokes are dumb Sticky sand weighing down my feet Thoughts are messy but the days are neat Tell me when did I get so slow Fingers move like a clock tick go Habits creep to the edge of the shore We go splashing and we all want more Losing vision of a sunset ache A perfect song that I cannot make

about

‘Welcome Back To My Channel’ is an outpouring of the sadness and doubt that we’ve been feeling over the past year, and an exploration of the things we do to make ourselves feel better. At times we’d been feeling like we were losing ourselves, forgetting to be nice to ourselves. Originally inspired by the hypnotic digital cocoon ASMR videos that are comforting and eerie in equal measure, the EP became our most personal music to date - we wrote most of it in a cottage surrounded by sheep in Wales with no running water, and it did end up being a form of therapy for us - taking us from our lowest point in music to a place of positivity and love.

A lot of the lyrics were written ironically, even angrily, or at least in the knowledge that their positive affirmations are ineffective or clichéd. But over time they do begin to have an effect. We needed to write and sing these things, and when we hear ‘You are loved deeply, you deserve rest’ now, we start to believe it.

We worked again with Terence Broad for the artworks, whose neural network generated images turned our faces into abstract visions for our last EP. For this one, we rolled the process back so that Georgie’s face remained (relatively) intact, manipulated into strange states beyond our control. This felt like the perfect backdrop to the EP - a neural network trying its best to recreate Georgie, but distorting her in the process, like the disconnect between the process of making yourself feel better, and actually feeling better. Similarly on the music side, we used vocoder and choir samples extensively across the EP, which straddle the same border between human warmth, and unreal digital cold.
